Frequently Asked Questions
Depending on
individual fitness level and ability, we run between 2-4 miles
across a wide variety of terrains including asphalt, trails, and
grass. We will do a variety of training runs including longer
distances, intervals, and hill repeats. Above all, we run as
a group and have a lot of fun!
Per WIAA rules, all
student athletes must attend 10 practices.
Athletes must attend the practice prior to a meet to participate.
Athletes must attend school the day of the meet to
participate.
Regardless of the
course, every race is 3,000 meters (1.89
miles).
Athletes should wear
comfortable running shoes, shorts, and a (moisture-wicking)
t-shirt. As we run in all conditions, a long-sleeved shirt is
also recommended. Islander dress code applies at all
times.
Athletes should wear
a well-fitting pair of running shoes that provide adequate support
and reduce road impact. Super
Jock-n-Jill and Road Runner Sports, both located near Greenlake in
Seattle, specialize in fitting athletes with
the proper shoe. Other athletic stores offer similar
services.
Practice will be on
Tuesday-Friday from 3-4:10. Monday practices after school (early
release 1:30-2:40) are optional, as are Fridays since there is no
activity bus.
Athletes can ride
the Activity Bus that departs from the front of the school at 4:20,
Tues, Wed, and Thurs. There is no bus Monday or Fridays. Parents
may also pick up their son or daughter at the back of the
school.
