Welcome to SpeechSpeak with Miss Carole (Azose)! ![]() April 2012: Spring is finally here and we are loving it! Discuss with your child the difference in all 4 seasons. How are they different. Ask your child for his opinion...which season does he/she like best, and why? There are so many wonderful books for children on the subject of flowers and trees blooming and coming to life each Spring. Take a trip to the library or bookstore together with your child and pick out several books to read together. I am not sure who will enjoy this more! important it is to read to your preschooler. But have you
ever thought about reading and Speech?
Throughout toddlerhood and preschool, your
child is learning critical language and enunciation skills. By
listening to you read
One Fish Two Fish Red Fish
Blue Fish, your
child is reinforcing the basic sounds that form language.
“Pretend reading”—when a toddler pages through a
book with squeals and jabbers of delight—is a very important
pre-literacy activity. As a preschooler, your child will likely
begin sounding out words on his
own.

with the weather! Snow is so wonderful and fun for all of our
students (and teachers as well!) Use this time with your
child to talk about what you see out your window. Describe
the way the snow falls from the sky, the icicles hang from a
branch, the "crunchy" sound you hear when you walk on the snow, the
feeling of the snow when you make a snowball, etc. There are
so many concepts we can be teaching our children at this special
time. We talked in school about cold/hot, soft/hard,
rain/snow, dark/light, summer/winter.

upcoming holidays! This is a great time to talk to your child
about "how they are feeling". Are they "happy"?
"excited"? Labeling emotions in ourselves and others is a important
skill for children. Theory of Mind is developed in children
as they grow. Theory of mind is the capacity to understand
what other people know, think or feel.
