Hello, my name is Terry Hart.
I first started working for the district as an interim school
psychologist when my children were young. When our youngest
was in first grade, I started working full time for the district
and have continued in some version of full/part time employment
since then. Most recently, that has meant a .6 FTE position
(roughly 3 days per week) with the Preschool as their Psychologist
and Coordinator.
My educational experience
includes degrees in clinical psychology and school psychology (the
east coast: New York and Connecticut) and educational
psychology (Seattle). My early work experience includes
employment at the Institute for Developmental Studies in New York
where I evaluated preschoolers in Harlem. It goes to the other
end of the spectrum in my work at The Age Center of New England
where I evaluated people 65 years of age and older.
After obtaining my doctoral
degree at the University of Washington in 1993, I taught the
Neuropsychology of Learning course in the graduate school of
education to school psychologists in training. I did this for
four years years before acknowledging that while for a brief
nanosecond in time I felt comfortable with my lens on current
research in this broad area, it was at significant cost to my free
time (nonexistent).
The driving force of my
professional life has been an interest in the brain and
learning. I am now more or less comfortable with the idea that
I really only can sample the myriad research readings that span
‘womb to tomb’ – and fully understand why people
go into subspecialties.
I am humbled by the research information that is out there –
and realize that it is truly impossible to stay on top of all the
research that applies to our students here in school .
However, that doesn’t mean that I can’t be open to
information that has relevance for our students’
(your children) learning and for
ourselves. Towards that end, I will be posting
articles/research/links to material that I have found
interesting. I hope you enjoy it.
Thank you,
Terry Hart, Ph.D., NCSP
